Sharon Covington was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and has lived in Arlington, Texas. since 1986. After an apprenticeship as a fashion illustrator for Palais Royal department store in Shreveport and several years as a graphic designer for Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Sharon Covington returned to student life in order to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree at University of North Texas. Since 1985, she has been a college instructor and professor in the design field.

Sharon started seriously exhibiting her mixed media paintings and drawings while attending University of North Texas and continues this practice today. Recently, her work has branched into digital painting and photography. No matter what media Sharon is working in, she is committed to exploring the creative process.

She is a passionate educator and has taught at various colleges and universities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. From 2006 to 2022, Sharon was assistant professor of art at Tarrant County College Southeast in Arlington. She is a member of the College Art Association of America, Texas Association of Schools of Art, Texas Community Colleges Teacher’s Association and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
